North Yorkshire Police made 10 arrests after a woman reported she was raped at the Army Foundation College in 2021.
When the woman - attending the training college as a teenager - first reported that she was raped by several fellow soliders the police investigation was labelled "entirely inadequate" by the Crown Prosecution Service.
After reinvestigating, 10 arrests were made - but no one was charged.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed that in July 2022 it “offered the victim their most sincere apologies for the initial response to her report to the force in July 2021”.
It is reported that the force reached a financial settlement with the victim, with no admission of liability.
The statement continued:
A review of the incident was conducted which subsequently led to a crime being recorded, and a further investigation resulted in 10 arrests being made. Disappointingly, we had to inform the victim in 2024 that the CPS could not authorise charges.
This suggests that there was not enough evidence to charges the individuals.
An FOI published on August 6, 2026 stated that between June 1, 2025 and June 19, 2026, 16 sexual offences were recorded at the Army Foundation College – more than one a month.
The college has a history of alleged sexual assault, violence and bullying, with 43 reported incidences of sexual offences and violence reported over a four year period.
