A woman has died after a collision on the A59 at Flaxby.
North Yorkshire Police closed the road in both directions between Goldsborough roundabout and the roundabout at Allerton Park this afternoon (October 7) after a serious collision.
The force said in a statement that the incident happened at approximately 3.30pm and involved a black Vauxhall Corsa which was travelling towards Harrogate.
A woman who was driving the Corsa was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The road remains closed while specialist collision investigators carry out examinations, and it is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.
A force statement added:
We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or the Corsa in the moments leading up to it, or has dashcam footage that may have captured something.
We are also keen to speak with the driver of a white HGV that was travelling in the opposite direction at the time, as they may have seen something that may help with our enquiries.
