Two new houses look set to be built in Harrogate – in the car-park of the Claro Beagle pub.
The pub's owner, national company Punch Pubs, applied for planning permission to build the pair of semi-detached houses in June 2025, and consent was finally granted, subject to conditions, on Wednesday (September 30).
The houses, which will occupy a plot in the corner of the car-park closest to the junction of Coppice Avenue with Ripon Road, will each have a kitchen and living room downstairs, with three bedrooms above: one double and two singles.

The planned houses can be seen on the left, with the Claro Beagle to the right, and other housing behind.
As they will stand so close to Ripon Road – one of the town's main arterial routes – the properties will be fitted with high acoustic specification windows and surrounded by a two-metre-high acoustic fence, which must be a permanent feature of the site.
In addition, the planning consent stipulates that the Claro Beagle must not empty waste bottles into its outside bins between 9pm and 9am, and there must be "no deliveries, dispatches or waste collection" from the pub before 8am or after 6pm on any day.
There was only one objection to the planning application, and that was about the development's impact on local parking, but this was not deemed to be serious enough to scupper plans for the houses, which are believed to be destined for the open market.
