Eileen Ferguson, former councillor and Mayor of Knaresborough, has died, Knaresborough Town Council has announced.
Ms Ferguson was a councillor in Knaresborough for many years and was mayor in 1983, 1992 and 1995.
She was also active on various committees, including those for Bebra Town Twinning, Knaresborough Civic Society, the Royal British Legion, Knaresborough Relief in Need, and Age Concern Knaresborough.
Philip Allott, who served on Knaresborough Town Council alongside Ms Ferguson, said:
Eileen was a stalwart of the local community who gave her time for free. She was a passionate town advocate and supporter of all things Knaresborough.
For many years she lived on Stockwell Drive, Knaresborough and always had people coming to see her with local problems, which she worked hard to resolve for them. She had a great sense of humour, and her smile and warmth has brightened many civic Sundays.
Ms Ferguson’s funeral will be held on Monday, June 15 at 12 noon at St John's Parish Church, Knaresborough. All who knew her are welcome to attend.
