Well-known postmaster and campaigner for Starbeck, Andrew Hart, has died.
Mr Hart, 71, co-owner and director of the Red Box post office on High Street and the King Edward's Drive post office in Bilton, died on October 3 while in Malaysia.
A keen advocate for Starbeck, Mr Hart founded the Facebook group Starbeck Community Group and championed the area, including calling for better parking, support for new businesses and reducing air pollution at the level crossing.
In a post on its social media page, Starbeck Post Office said Mr Hart’s loss would be felt deeply.
It said:
Andrew’s kindness, presence and genuine care touched so many people within our community, and his loss is felt deeply by all of us at the Red Box.
Your support means more than we can say, and it reminds us of the strength and warmth within our local community.
The Red Box will remain open during our usual working hours, and our team will continue to serve you with care.
The post prompted a flood of sympathetic comments, with many praising Mr Hart's contribution to Starbeck.
Mr Hart and business partner Asma Ola took over Knaresborough Banking Hub in July this year, and was a director of Knaresborough & District Chamber.
