Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.

Just an observation, but have you noticed the build up of leaves and rubbish in the street gutters of Harrogate?

I don’t want to say “I told you so” but we will at some point have some rain. If the drains become blocked there will be flooding — all of which could be avoided if the gutters were cleared in a timely manner. Do you think our local authorities are even remotely aware of what might happen?

Simon Croft, Harrogate

The kindness of Knaresborough

My scooter broke down in Rievaulx Avenue in Knaresborough a long way from home. The people from the avenue came out to help, phoned the insurance company and gave me drinks. After just over of waiting one hour, nobody came and I was wondering what to do. I am 89-years-old and it’s a long walk to Boroughbridge Road.

A lovely couple saw me sitting on the scooter when they passed by and I was still there when they came back. The only thing I know about them is their house backs onto the Knaresborough cricket ground. The wife took me home and her husband and friend put the scooter into the back of their van and brought it home to my garage.

I would like to say a big thank you for being so kind to a old man, you were wonderful.

Bob Jones, Knaresborough
