A plan has been submitted to convert a Boroughbridge takeaway into a funeral directors.

H.C Townsend And Son Limited has lodged the plan to North Yorkshire Council for Richmond House on Horsefair in the town.

The application seeks to change the use of the takeaway to a funeral directors over two phases.

In a planning statement submitted to the council, the developer said the move would help H.C Townsend And Son to relocate from its temporary offices on Back Lane in Boroughbridge.

It added that the proposal would help a family-run business to contribute to the local area.

    A planning statement said:

Our clients are seeking a change of use to Richmond House in 2 phases due to a rental agreement that was in place prior to their purchase. The change of use will eventually transfer the whole of the building into use as a funeral directors.

As a family with strong connections to Boroughbridge, our clients wish to contribute to the local community both in the service they offer and the contribution that Richmond House makes to the town.

This application will support a local family business into providing a much-needed service to the community of Boroughbridge, allowing deceased persons and their families to access bereavement and funeral services within their own community. This is particularly valuable to families at a distressing time.

North Yorkshire Council will make a decision on the plan at a later date.
