Harrogate Rugby Club is asking for the public's views on plans to extend its clubhouse and create four new padel courts at its Rudding Lane home.

The proposed development includes a single-storey extension which would nearly double the floorspace of the clubhouse. It would include a new main entrance, spacious clubroom and lounge, an extended bar and reception area.

There would also be a new catering kitchen, offices and meeting spaces, gym and two additional changing rooms, created by converting the existing gym.

The new padel courts to the rear of the club would be floodlit and wheelchair-accessible.

The club has launched a consultation process before submitting a planning application and has created a website to gather views from the public.

The site says:

We have already undertaken an initial discussion with North Yorkshire Council. Following these discussions, the scheme has been revised and we are now ready to present the emerging proposals to local residents and the wider community for comments.

Prior to the submission of the planning application we are keen to hear your views on the proposals.

It goes on to invite website users to review the proposals online and leave their comments on the site. The deadline for comments is Friday, October 23.

Harrogate RUFC currently play in National League 2 North, which is in the fourth tier of the English rugby union pyramid.

The third-placed team will play away to fourth-placed Preston Grasshoppers tomorrow (Saturday, September 19).
