Harrogate’s Nuffield Health is set to be turned into offices after plans were given the go-ahead.
A planning application from Hornbeam Park Developments Ltd was approved yesterday (October 19) that requested “external alterations including new windows and rooflights”.
However, part of the application included a document that stated the use of the building would be changed from "indoor sport, recreation or fitness" to "offices".
Planning permission is not required to do this as they fall within the same broad class of use.
The proposed floorplan includes the creation of shared working space, individual offices and a café area.
It is not known what is to happen to Nuffield Health – if it is to be relocated or closed down.
Part of the application states:
The proposed development comprises some minor external alterations to an existing building to facilitate a new occupier and change of use. This application proposes minimal physical alterations to the building, limited to the insertion of new windows and roof lights to improve natural light and ventilation for the new occupancy.
Nuffield Health is one of the only gyms in Harrogate to offer a pool, and has just installed a new reformer Pilates studio.
The Stray Ferret has contacted Nuffield Health for comment.
