The simple test is much less invasive than normal methods.

In a first for the Harrogate district, a game-changing endometriosis test is to be launched in a bid to tackle diagnosis delays.

A private healthcare clinic in Harrogate, Cocoon, will offer the saliva-based test from September 20.

Endometriosis affects one in 10 women and takes an average of nine years to diagnose in the UK, normally involving invasive tests.

The test, called EndoTest, involves having a saliva swab taken by a clinician, and has a 97.5% identification rate. Patients can expect results in about 25 days.

Kate Mortimer, clinical lead at Cocoon, said:

Endometriosis is chronically under-diagnosed and under-discussed. Women are too often told their symptoms are normal, or made to wait years for confirmation of something they already suspect.

EndoTest gives us a way to shorten that wait significantly, and we wanted to open our doors and talk people through it properly with a supportive team that genuinely cares.
