A man was found dead at a property in Harrogate at the weekend, police have said.

Several ambulances, two fire engine and police cars descended on Franklin Road, close to the town centre, on Saturday (October 17).

In a statement this morning, North Yorkshire Police said a man in his 50s was found dead at a property on the street.

He was also identified as having what appeared to be chemical burns, the force added.

Officers said the death is being treated as unexplained.

    A police statement said:

At 3pm on Saturday (17 October 2026), we were contacted following concerns for the safety of a man at an address on Franklin Road, Harrogate.

Officers attended the property and, with the assistance of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, gained entry. A man in his 50s was sadly found deceased inside.

The man was quickly identified as having what appeared to be chemical burns. As a precaution, specialist resources from the police, ambulance and fire services attended the scene to assess any potential risks. Following an initial assessment, it was established that there was no ongoing risk of harm to emergency service personnel or members of the public.

The death is being treated as unexplained . Officers are assisting with preparations of a report for the coroner.
